Engaging Public Officials In Emergency Management
Gerald Gifford, GA-CEM

Engaging with elected and other public officials is critical before, during, and after an emergency response. Educating them on the types of disasters that could happen in their community and how their constituents would likely be effected better enables them to respond during a crisis. They need to know our role as Emergency Management Professionals and how they fit into the larger picture. Since elected officials change every few years, it's important that education be provided on a regular schedule in a forum that respects their time and gets them active in the process.
