How The Reason Why Heracles Is Greater Than Achilles Make Goal Setting and Reaching Easier
Have you ever questioned why Heracles was the single best and most important or at least the most famous Greek hero?
So, this was one of my favorite insights recently and if you love Greek mythology and fiction stories, you probably will love this article.
After all, having a different idea on How to Set and Achieve Goals using Storytelling rather than blind techniques is always a fun experience to try.
With this said:
Have you ever noticed how great and similar heroes like Aragorn, from Lord of The Rings, and Superman from DC are?
In the modern days, we have this particular approach with heroes that they need to be good, to be virtues, to be “perfect” or at least represent the higher in us.
And we have our own terminology when they are not virtues: Antiheros.
The fun fact is:
If we go to mythology, most heroes would be antiheroes, or at least do not bueno things.
So, since heroes represent a State, People, and Cultures, they are as imperfect as us, with failures, virtues, problems and mission.
And that is where our story begins today:
The Difference Between Heracles and Achilles:
Achilles was one of the best warriors that ever lived from the greeks. The perfect warrior.
When he was a baby, his mother had a horrible vision of him dying in battle, since she was a goddess (minor one), she was immortal, while her son, not.
So, she tried to bathe him in magical waters that would make him invulnerable, but, as the myth goes, his heel was not bathed and that was the vulnerable part of his body.
Also, Achilles was trained by Chiron, a Centaur born from Cronos (The Titan) and an Oceanid.
By the way, all the greatest heroes were taught by him. (Heracles is among them).
Story Goes and Achilles Fight in The Trojan War…
And here we gonna make a health stop, to talk about Heracles:
Heracles, The Greatness of the Greek Heroes:
Different from Achilles, Heracles was a son of Zeus, also he was played by Hera.
You see Zeus promise that the first son from the ones that descend from the Hero Perseus, were to become a great king.
But, Hera, desiring not to give this powerful throne for Heracles, the son of the lover of her husband.
Mark Eurystheus, a relative of Heracles, was born before him, actually he was born very prematurely.
In the story, Eurystheus always hated Heracles; he envied the son of Zeus.
Happen that in a moment, played by Hera, Heracles commits a horrible crime against his family, so severe that a broken Heracles goes to the Oracle of Delphi seeking a way to cleanse his error.
Played by Hera, the oracle said that Heracles should serve Eurystheus, the man that hates him, and do whatever he asks to be clean from his sin.
This is the moment that the called 12 Labors were born.
Here is Why Heracles is Great Than Achilles:
Achilles was powerful, as Heracles was.
But Achilles met his end, dishonoring the gods, not because his mother wasn’t capable of helping him, but because, in anger and frustration, he committed a crime against the rules.
Simple because Achilles, powerful, was so arrogant and so played by his own emotions and vanity that this was the end of him.
Something other great rulers and also great Fans of the Iliad Story, Like Alexander, suffer a lot -> Emotions and Vanity.
Heracles, as well, made the same mistake, he had his own sins to purge, but with one single difference, after his life, Heracles became a god, while Achilles still was a mortal (The dead type by the way??).
Is his journey, Heracles was help:
?? By the Gods
?? Other Man
?? His Intellect
?? Have to face his failures
?? Have to seek to be better
?? And still was not perfect
But as Achilles, and as most of us, what made them heroes was the fact they have A Mission and they were capable of many great things.
In fact -> Being capable of great things is the trace heroes from the past have.
The idea of virtue is more normal to us now, since most of our great beliefs came from Hebraic and Cristian Beliefs and another healthy amount came from Buddhism and Chinese Culture.
Achilles dies in the Trojan Wars, not because he has to, but because he disrespect the gods after his battle against Hector, also with a clear advice of the Gods to approach wisely with Agamemnon betrayal and with a promise they would reward him if he waits for the right moment.
Both are imperfect, but Achilles has to face his pride and arrogance, while Heracles has to find wisdom, failures and humbleness to relieve his pain, finding in work the peace he needed.
So, What in The World This Have to Do With Goal Setting:
Finding in Work The Peace He Needed
Fun fact: you and I won’t live forever, but also, in most cases, we probably won’t have a second life.
We just have this one, and if to be a hero, not mean follow a code of virtues that are almost impossible and inhuman.

But, being a hero, is capable of great things. To Reach our missions until the end, to be powerful, be successful…
How Can We Be Capable of Great Things?
Recently I was creating content for my Pinterest account that talks about marketing.
One of the reasons is that I didn’t post well enough this days and also I having to change my strategy:
I'm pretty upset now that this profile is having a hard time due to lack of productivity.
And is really boring since this other profile of mine dedicated to fiction writing has the same time, less content and performs a lot better.
What the problem is:
As a content creator, regardless of my marketing expertise, it's still hard seeing my profile drop so hard.
(Even when it is not that relevant! - Conversion Don’t Depend Exclusively of Great Number Views)
And the way emotions work…
Remember that emotions where the end of Alexander The Great, Napoleon and Achilles -> With Good Doses of Vanity and Arrogance
You see, nobody creates a goal, deciding that we don’t want to reach it.
When we make a goal of having more money, we want to have it.
When we want a better body shape, better knowledge, talent, skills…
Nobody goes to the Speedway with the Random Decision to Lose.
If you have enough ambition to decide that you want to win, that you want more, is hard and against the statistics that you go to the battlefield wanting to lose
So, what about goal setting?
The idea is not to say -> What I Want to Win
The Idea is -> How I Gonna Win?
One of The Best Curiosities You Gonna Receive Today, Did You Know…
Did you know that, different from families that have a long tradition in physics, chemistry, medicine…
Is very rare to find families with a long tradition of math and writing(fiction writing, journalism is not too rare).
I mean, it is not difficult to find a family that earns more than one Nobel or has more than one renowned scientist.
But it is truly rare to find families that have generations of great writers.
We don’t have two J.R.R Tolkiens in the Tolkien family, neither two C.S Lewis, two Tolstois, 2 Kants.
Writers and philosophers, as mathematicians, all these skills and arts are based on hard and pure repetition and improvement.
By the way, content creation and marketing are similar in a lot of ways. ?? Almost All Success People Desire Are Made of Pure and Simple Repetition and Consistent Improvement
We won’t see Tolkine sons writing the next Godlike high fantasy book, nor a new Socrates, neither…
When these events happen, when new great books or writers such as Sthepen King, Harry Potter Series, Brandon Sanderson, Sandman HQ’s…
Those writers and stories came from people that have nothing to do with previous great winners, at the best, are just inspired by them.
When I show my Pinterest Accounts, when I show Heracles and Achilles Story, I point to a single thing:
Is not Skill, is humbleness, regardless of power, you always will need to take action. And results are based on repetition and improvement.
Achilles was as great as Heracles and could be as legendary as Heracles, but he died since he focused on emotion rather than action, while Heracles acted until he died.
And Heracles becomes a god, while being the greatest Greek Hero, surpassing Perseu by the way.
I could be pissed since my Pinterest is not performing, but I need to post better content in a better strategy, in a way that will make profit, a thing that wasn't possible in the last strategy.
When comes about goal setting -> Screwed goal setting -> Whatever you want is a question of being humble enough to act as many times as it is needed
Next time you ever find yourself desiring a new result, a new goal…
Remember this: The Question is How ->?
How many times do I have to do this action until I get what I want?
This is the difference between a Tolkien writer and a normal fantasy daydreamer.
With this said, my dear reader, I expect you love the reading.
Consider give this post a like here on Linkedin ??
And I think it is time for you to go and make your goal happen.
I really wish you the best of luck and you are really capable of great things.
With this said, time to go, I'll be waiting for you with a healthy dose of anxiety until our next meeting. ????
Kind Regards,
