Engaging Gen-Z Talent

Engaging Gen-Z Talent

I hope you’re well and having a great start to the month! Q1 was a great quarter for us here at Love Recruitment. One of the highlights for me was holding a panel at?Perform X ?with?Harry Portch ,?Dominic Joyce ?and?Laura Francis ?on the topic of “Engaging with Gen Z Talent”.?This is an important topic for our industry. In the UK as of 2021, there were 12.7 million Gen?Z (people born between 1997 – 2012). By 2020, Gen Z will be the biggest section of the workforce in the UK. Understanding them and engaging with them is of huge importance. I thought it would be useful to provide you with a summary of some of the discussion points from the panel.

?

Understand them There are a lot of misconceptions of Gen Z in media and the panel were very keen for everyone to know that this generation want to be understood, heard and want to have a voice. Before you implement any of the below in your recruitment + retention process, you need to spend time understanding this generation.

Promote Flexibility Flexibility is key for Gen Z, who value work-life balance and the freedom to pursue personal interests alongside their career. Offering flexible work schedules and remote work options where feasible is something which is highly valued by this generation.

Offer Personalised Development The panel were all unanimous with this point. Gen Z is ambitious and eager to learn and grow in their careers. Providing opportunities for continuous learning and skill development can be a powerful way to attract and retain talent. Offer mentorship programs, training workshops, and career progression paths tailored to individual interests and goals.

Communicate with Authenticity Gen Z values authenticity and transparency in brands and employers. Be genuine in your messaging and communication, and show your commitment to authenticity through actions, such as responding to feedback and addressing issues openly. Engage with Gen Z talent on social media platforms where they are active, showcasing your company culture and values.

Provide Social Responsibility Initiatives Gen Z is socially conscious and values companies that contribute positively to society. Engage in corporate social responsibility initiatives, such as environmental sustainability efforts or community outreach programs, and involve employees in these initiatives. Demonstrating your commitment to making a difference can foster a sense of pride and loyalty among Gen Z employees.

Prioritise Diversity and Inclusion Gen Z is known for its commitment to diversity and inclusion. Demonstrating a genuine commitment to diversity in your hiring practices and creating an inclusive workplace culture can help attract and retain Gen Z talent. This includes providing opportunities for professional development and advancement regardless of background.

Promote Health and Wellness This is great news for our sector and probably going to be a big factor in attracting and retaining talent in the health and fitness sector. Offer wellness programs, mental health support, and incentives for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Gen Z really value this and employers should put a huge focus on this. ?

I hope you find this useful and if you need any further information, please feel free to reach out.
