Does your company have employment engagement surveys?

? If it doesn’t then today this will be more about what you have personally experienced and a chance to provoke thought about what good looks like.

? If your company does then you’ll know that they show that the people experience can vary from team to team so you’ll be able to see how putting the right foundations in place will boost engagement.

In its ‘State of the Global Workplace Report 2023’ Gallup concluded that only 23% of employees are engaged at work – a record high and it’s an upward trend.? They also found that the majority of employees (59%) are ‘quiet quitting’ or doing the bare minimum.

?

I don’t know about you but that sounds a bit grim to me. ??

?

It seems like such a basic thing to get right especially when Gallup says that when employees are engaged you’ll find an:

?? Increase in productivity by 14%

?? Increase in customer rates by 10%

?? Increase in sales by 18%

?? Increase in profitability by 23%

?? Increase in organisational participation by 13%

?

I’m going to ask you some questions that if you manage people will provoke? thought and help you explore how to create the best foundations for an engaged team.

I’m a fan of looking at the neuroscience of engagement and based on this I am going to recommend that you look at 4 key areas upon which to optimise the people experience in your workplace and build a strong foundation for great employee engagement.? These 4 engagement elements link to the reflective and rational brain system.

Are people clear on the company’s ‘why’, the company mission?

Do people know how they fit into that ‘why’, what is their individual purpose?

What are your company values and do people understand how they impact your culture?

?

?? Clarity ?

Does the business provide clear and transparent messaging?

Do people have easy access to the information they need?

How do you ensure communication is understood?

?

?? Personal Growth

Do people have opportunities for development?

Do they understand how they can progress?

Do you support stretch projects?

?

?? Enablement

Do your people have the right tools to do their job?

Do people have easy access to the support they need?

Can people know who to contact when they need to unblock frustrations?

?

Explore these 4 key elements with your team and you will start to see improved engagement.
