Engagement Starts With Me

"Our greatest engagement opportunity is wellbeing."
That's what the CEO of a large hospital system said after I wrapped up my "Winning the Heart" keynote on engagement & retention.
It was a ridiculously engaging event (no pun intended). I shared the 7 drivers of engagement and then we assessed the 400 leaders attending in real-time.
First, we asked which driver their teams needed most from them.
Next, we asked which driver?they?needed most to stay engaged themselves.
Of the seven drivers, these are the three that ranked as the highest needs:
That's when the CEO stole the show! As I finished, she stepped up and provided her reflection.
"Engagement starts with me. In the next couple weeks I'm going to be asking for specific feedback on how I can improve in each of these areas so I can be the leader our organization needs to be engaged."

Does the hospital system have engagement challenges? Sure they do - we talked about them specifically.
But will they be okay? They'll be better than okay - they're poised to thrive because their leaders are ready to step up and do their part.
(By the way, she was right - not because she's the CEO, but because "engagement starts with me" is true of every leader who says it!)
What about you? What does your team need most to stay engaged? What do YOU need most to stay engaged?
