Engagement for safety
Michael Emery - Coaching for safety
Securus Health & Safety Limited
In safety, the ultimate goal is an interdependent culture in which people are mindful of safety and committed to protecting each other and helping each other to conform. But discussing safety and, in particular, challenging unsafe behaviours is fraught with difficulty. Done well it is the under-pinning of a positive culture. Done badly it can undermine all other safety effort.
We’ve long thought that what’s missing from many behavioural safety implementations and culture change programmes, is support for people in the area of communication. When conversations matter so much, when the success or otherwise of a programme in which so much is invested rests so fundamentally on how well people engage with each other, it’s puzzling that people’s ability to communicate positively and effectively is taken for granted.
Which is why we’re delighted that, save for a few formalities, our Engagement for safety programme has been awarded IOSH Approval.
Engagement for safety is a highly-participative workshop designed to provide managers, supervisors and other members of the management support team with essential communication skills. Delegates learn to engage confidently and positively applying a world-famous coaching model to health and safety with a view, ultimately, to understanding and eliminating unsafe behaviours.
Though we’ve run the course many times, we’re really excited about launching it officially and bringing it to a wider audience. If you’re interested in finding out a little more about what’s involved, you can here
And just imagine how much better your working environment might be with a few more gear heads around the place.
Have a great week,
Michael
