Engage, not Scroll - 3 Quick Ways to Kickstart Your LinkedIn Mojo

Engage, not Scroll - 3 Quick Ways to Kickstart Your LinkedIn Mojo

He was animated and excited. His smile was huge and genuine. I felt an instant connection with him, because he felt it with me. ?? ??

No, this wasn’t a Tinder date, it was at an industry networking reception, when my friend Dwayne Rutherford said to me…

?? “Hey Leanne, I love what you’re doing on LinkedIn! You always post such great content!”

?? “Well thanks Dwayne! ?? I’m glad you are enjoying my content! So tell me, what are you currently doing on LinkedIn?”

?? “Oh Leanne, I’m not active on LinkedIn because I prefer in-person networking.”

Dwayne’s comment made me smile. He isn’t wrong, most of us (yes, even introverts) prefer in-person networking, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind Dwayne of how we first “met”. ??

He saw me on ? LinkedIn ?. And then when we saw each other in person, he greeted me warmly, topic in hand!

That, my beautiful friend Dwayne, is why I’m on LinkedIn. ??

Folks, being active on LinkedIn is the strongest, most powerful pre-cursor to our in-person interactions!?

It’s the virtual ice-breaker and awkward “get to know you” questions that we all face in a networking room!?It allows us to dive deep, right away, and get past the small talk. ??

Being active does NOT need to look like a 1000-word essay, or a complicated carousel post. It could be as simple as….

  • Commenting on someone’s post - simply to say “hey, this was good stuff!” to start….
  • Sending a quick DM (direct message) to someone to wish them congrats on their new role (want to learn more about DMs?? My recent blog post can shed some light)
  • Updating your Headline to reflect your next event - you may just find someone else who is going, and now the ice has been broken!

Why do I do LinkedIn? ?? Because seeing someone’s smile and having those warm in-person interactions are priceless, and I use LinkedIn so I can experience more smiles. ??

What are YOUR LinkedIn objectives?

Here's to your LinkedIn success, ?? ??
