Energy Talent in a Digital World

Energy Talent in a Digital World

This week, I have spoken to so many passionate candidates and clients in the energy sector. Amongst them, and myself, there is a real buzz around the transformation that is taking place from a technology standpoint. As someone who is not a technical guru, I have at times felt slightly overwhelmed by some of the terminology that is now being used (getting my head around blockchain, artificial intelligence, etc!) but at the same time I love having to challenge my brain to develop and progress with it.

In recent years, I have been asked to bring in talent from outside of the energy sector, from industries where digitalisation has been more advanced. This has been very successful and I have no doubt that the businesses that truly want to embrace the opportunities in the digital, will continue to need a diverse mix of skills, leadership styles and backgrounds in order to grow.  At the same time, I have found it refreshing to hear that many of the energy suppliers are up-skilling their 'non-digital' people so that they too can contribute, whilst adding huge value in terms of their knowledge of the sector's many complexities.

I would love to talk to leaders who are operating in the energy sector currently, or who are outside looking in with interest, and finding this transition equally as exciting as me!
