Energy Reflections on 2018 at SCTE?ISBE

As the day turns to twilight here on the last day of 2018, I can’t help but reflect on what a great year it was. The Energy 2020 Program had a few milestones during the year that I will remember for many years to come. First, we had our two Energy 2020 meetings that featured innovative ways of addressing cable facility power consumption – subversive cooling, phase change applications and of course micro-grid approaches to powering a facility to name a few.
Next we had the year-long Adaptive Power Challenge – an ideation contest and first for SCTE?ISBE, that featured 20 creative submissions. The Challenge judges at Cable-Tech Expo in Atlanta GA, selected two winners featuring a negative emissions fuel cell and a creative outside plant power supply that features an adaptive power approach to power management. Stay tuned to see what we have in store for our big show in New Orleans!
A third milestone for the Energy Program was the awarding of SCTE’s first US patent. US Patent No 10,139,845, “System and Method for Energy Consumption Management in Broadband Telecommunications Networks via Adaptive Power Management,” offers a framework for better aligning network energy consumption with network usage. As I approach my 20th year at SCTE, I can say I am truly excited for what is in store building on the success of 2018. To get involved in our Energy 2020 Program direct message me and we will talk in the new year!
Much health and well wishes to everyone!
