The Energy of Personal Sovereignty & Accountability in Leadership

The Energy of Personal Sovereignty & Accountability in Leadership

Developing our ability to take ownership and accountability for our energy and the way we show up as leaders is a practice that creates more opportunities for personal and collective growth in our personal and professional lives.

This week, we're exploring insights and best practices for navigating the energetics of leadership — especially as it relates to team dynamics.

Whether you realize it or not, reactive energy is an underlying current in most situations in the workplace:

  • It's that feeling you get in a meeting when something is off.
  • It's the "ick" you feel when someone says or does something that feels in opposition to your core values
  • It's the contraction you feel when a co-worker is late.

With any of these scenarios, they are all creating an impact — and an opportunity to make a choice!

You can choose to let it create impact that takes you off course, contracts your energy, and closes down possibility.

— OR —

You can hold space, remain in your sovereignty, manage your energy, be accountable for your reaction, inspire accountability, and open up space for possibility.

In this week's video, you'll hear more about these ideas and how they can play out in a common workplace scenario that has the potential to create negative ripple effects if you LET... it or productive ripple effects if you LEAD it.

The IEP Method? provides the proven frameworks and healthy habit-building that you and your leadership team can lean into to continue to explore these concepts, cultivate a leadership mindset, and inspire a workplace culture of accountability.

Consider this your invitation to notice this week:

  • In which interactions/situations are you staying in your space, holding your personal sovereignty, and therefore inspire accountability?
  • In which interactions/situations are you potentially giving away "your space", losing energy, and perpetuating the energetic dynamics that hold teams back?

Ready to get started on your journey with the IEP Method?? Here are some resources:

Contagious Culture: Show Up, Set the Tone, and Intentionally Create an Organization That Thrives (McGraw-Hill, 2015) In this book, you'll learn about energy in the organization, how to build your IEP as a leader and team, and ultimately how to build a positively contagious culture.

Contagious YOU: Unlock Your Power to Lead, Influence, and Create the Impact You Want (McGraw-Hill, 2019) After Contagious Culture, many wanted to build their leadership capacity and specifically more tools to help them strengthen their IEP and ability to navigate relationships with those who didn't think energy applied to them however were burning out their workforce. (I wrote Contagious You to support both.)

Great examples with George/Georgette/Julie/Jack! Creating space to be in partnership with my energy this week and notice where expansion/contraction shows up. ??
