Man on a Train: Volume 3

(train delayed by 7 months due to leaves on the track)

If you missed it, read Volume 1 and Volume 2!

----------

Fun fact time...

I was scanning down my list of future blog post topics (yup, I’m that guy) and I spotted ‘Inner Energy’. I looked up to consider the topic and sitting directly opposite me at a table on the train (of course), was a man who had perceived energy akin to a freshly born foal. Literally dead behind the eyes, no energy or drive, no urgency, just dead. I say this whilst monitoring him, somewhat freakishly, for 35 minutes. Either that or he was in a cryogenic stasis mode conserving energy. I really wanted to plug a smart meter into him to sense check his conservation techniques.

(As an aside, I recently had a smart meter installed and it truly is now an obsession of mine and has made me waaay more energy savvy than I was before).

I digress. So...

I got to thinking about my own inner energy and where it comes from.

A quick truffle shuffle back in time for a moment...I’ve been in full time permanent employment for over 24 years. There are only a handful of days where I don’t rise ready to take on the day, but why? I’m like some sort of energy buzzbomb in normal circumstances. Hmm.

So, where does it come from?

Some personal musings...

  • I’m programmed to get up, do a good job (don’t weigh in too heavily, colleagues) and make sure that everyone has what they need to get through the day. I lead
  • I’m loyal to my employer, to my teammates, to my boss, to me. I’m being paid to do the job that is expected of me. I give and gain more.
  • I’m not here to make up the numbers. I’m here to win.
  • I love working with the people I work with on a daily basis. One spends a large chunk of their lives in a professional working environment of some sorts and thus one needs to feel that the energy you give is reciprocated. I'm here to be energised.

Indeed, that last one is exactly where I feel my energy comes from. That is to say, I get so much energy from the people around me.

I work for IBM, let’s face it, there’s a reputation that IBM carries that would make people believe that it is dated.

"Not so" said with a half-smirk :-)

I’m infused and enthused every single day by working with some incredibly talented individuals who exude similar traits to me; high energy levels, passion, desire and above all an urgency to get stuff done.

I work with seasoned professionals with 20+ years of experience, Salesforce experts with multi-cert accolades and knowledge of a Platform that I can only dream of and I work with some of the brightest post-graduate talent making their way in their careers with the benefit of, what I believe is, good leadership (comments on a postcard please ;)).

Bluewolf has changed since the IBM acquisition. Process has changed. Governance has changed. To a degree, the people have changed; but what still endures is that sense of working together as a team to service our customers with the passion, desire and urgency that I expect of myself.

All hail inner energy!

For me, it comes from being part of a team

The guy opposite me is a team of one at the moment - maybe I'll send him to our recruitment page.

Get involved if you are keen to lead more, gain more, win more and be more energised.

The team is growing, the energy levels are increasing and this is partially down to some excellent new hires joining our established team in the UK. We've re-structured to scale for success in 2019 and beyond - if you need to freshen up your working arrangement you'd do a lot worse than consider joining Bluewolf, an IBM Company.

It's time for a change...and I'm really passionate about building the best team possible!
