"The Energy Metaverse" ...

A few months before the word 'Metaverse' made the mainstream news thanks to the Facebook rebranding, I had proposed to the Enlit team to deliver a session on "The Energy Metaverse".

So on the 1st December last in Milan on the Inspire Stage during #EnlitEurope, I got my opportunity ...

My goal was to share what I see the Metaverse is all about, the characteristics of a Metaverse, the tools & technologies that are needed, the emerging platform etc. And crucially based on what we've been doing in the Energy Industry for years, why I am convinced we're already building the Energy Metaverse.

In summary, I really am convinced that we're building the Energy Metaverse already.

Now while many of the building blocks, the technologies and the platforms we'll need for the Metaverse are not coming from the Energy Industry, what the Energy Industry is doing today with Digital Twins, especially what I'd call 'dynamic' Digital twins is key. These real-time digital twins, enabled by real world IIoT / AI, these provide the foundation we need in order to create a virtual world that really is a true digital representation of our existing Energy world.

Then add in the business need to find more immersive and collaborative ways of working remotely, a lot of things start to come together. It's a bit of a perfect storm ... and we really are doing a lot of this already...

I really am convinced of it.

But why a Newsletter you may ask?

For folks that know me, I've been a fan of AR/VR, Virtual Worlds, Digital Twins etc for years. As I tried to outline in my Inspire talk, I honestly see the Metaverse as the next iteration of the 'digitalization' of all sorts of Industries and how we actually will work and collaborate in the future.

That said, I do NOT see us all suddenly working in some sort of Metaverse anytime soon. This is going to take years. But as they say, the 'Metaverse' genie is out of the bottle. It's not going back in.

Now one of my personal goal's for 2022 is to continue to share the cool technologies, tools, processes & examples that I come across but in a more structured way. That's the reason for me in creating this Newsletter, with a new edition out every 2 weeks.

At least that is my plan ??

And speaking of plans. all going well I'll be off CES 2022 after the holidays. Given the amount of companies planning to have new innovations / tech for the Metaverse there, I'll sure there will be many cool ideas there what will be applicable to Industrial & Energy applications. And with DistribuTECH / PowerGen on the last week of December in Dallas, it will also be interesting to see who's off building bits of the Metaverse there...

So I have no doubt I'll have enough cool stuff and content to share...

That's my plan. Now I do NOT have all the answers, nor do I even know all the questions at this point in time, but is should be a fun ride to see how all this develops in 2022+
