Energy and India
A few days before, our professor said in class, " Quality of life increases with an increase in energy consumption", This interested me very much and I came to know about the new term?"Per capita energy consumption"(PCEC).
? The PCEC of India is 970 KWh in 2021and compared with USA 18170.4 KWh which is 18 times greater than India. I am not to the point whether over-energy consumption is good or bad. But can say that the energy consumption will be increasing in the future, maybe doubled.
As we are heading towards our 75th Independence Day, we should think about the energy production and consumption for the sustainable growth of our country. As our energy requirements are growing day to day, we must be aware where this energy comes from.
The primary source of energy till now are coal, petroleum products, and natural gas. Where coal shares 44%, followed by oil (24%) and biomass (22%). Natural gas covers 6% and primary electricity (hydro, nuclear, solar, and wind) 4%.
Also, we must consider that Non-Renewable sources provides nearly 37% of the electricity needed in 2021. Also, our country is endowed with vast solar energy potential. India achieved the 5th global position in solar power deployment by surpassing Italy in July 2019. About 5,000 trillion kWh per year of energy is incident over India's land area with most parts receiving 4-7 kWh per sq. m per day. If this energy is utilized properly, it assists in the total energy requirement of our country. (source:?https://mnre.gov.in/solar/current-status/)
