Energy Edge #2

Energy Edge #2

Welcome to the second edition of Energy Edge from Continuum Industries . This newsletter is packed with insights for energy infrastructure developers, utilities and experts worldwide, transitioning to net zero.

This month we’ve summarised the key takeaways from Grzegorz Marecki 's talk at Global Transmission Report 's event: Transmission Infrastructure US.? We’ve hit another milestone with our latest ISO certification (and we’re working towards SOC 2). Plus read our latest blog posts for insights on how early data analysis can assist network planning and the facts about the transformation needed if we’re to hit net zero goals by 2050.

To top it all off, we’ve got an Optioneer 'feature highlight' and a case study. Our customer turned to Continuum Industries and Optioneer for strategic planning when facing a tight deadline to integrate new wind power into the grid.

Find out what happened and read on!

Here are our highlights from Grzegorz Marecki 's talk at Global Transmission Report 's Transmission Infrastructure US event in New York.

There is an urgent need to double the size of the grid and speed up the process for getting linear infrastructure projects developed and permitted.

Using the current approach, engineering plots a route, sends it for feedback and repeats the process, sometimes for years, before getting a permit.

Is there a better way?

  • Many considerations can be parameterised and put into mathematical models.
  • Leveraging the power of AI and geospatial data, to generate options for where to place assets while at the same time weighing options against all other constraints, like engineering, environmental and social.
  • With route options generated, iterating much faster, moving factors normally considered later in the process, like visual impact, to earlier stages.
  • By considering all factors earlier in the process, better understanding the risks and challenges of what to take on, avoiding long timelines and escalating costs.

National Interest Electricity Transmission Corridors

NIETCs

Within a week an engineer using Optioneer was able to examine the NIETCs, identify preliminary routes within the corridors and find areas of focus that may cause more concern.

Optioneer’s reporting showed who might be impacted and who developers might want to reach out to in the community.

Is your collaboration process looking a bit... tangled?

It’s challenging to keep track of crucial decisions, especially as new data emerges. Limited access to information within the team can lead to protracted iteration cycles.

That’s why we developed one of our customer’s favourite features. Optioneer’s enhanced comment functionality:

  • Capture crucial data from surveys and engagement events
  • Include detailed meeting notes
  • Efficiently link files to geospatial features
  • Tailor information to project needs
  • Label comments by risk level to prioritise issues
  • All in one place.

Improve decision-making with a comprehensive information trail from day one.?
