Energise Your Virtual Audience

There are a couple of great ways to warm up an audience before you get into your big speech, right?
You could start with a funny story…
An inspiring anecdote…
Or even a question.
Now, all these things work pretty well in a physical setting.
But if you have to give a speech to a virtual audience…
You might have to crank up your warm-up.
See, there can be too many distractions in a virtual setting.
People could be tuning in from home, where they have their kids or pets around.
They could also be in a busy cafe somewhere.
And if you’re unable to pull their attention in as you begin your presentation…
They might stay tuned out for the entire thing!
My advice?
Have your audience talk a bit about themselves before you start.
In terms of catching their attention and unlocking the energy of a virtual audience…
This works a lot better than stories because it generates engagement!
So, before you begin the presentation, just ask everyone to pop into the chat and tell you where they’re tuning in from.
This is a great question to ask because it’s simple enough for people to answer in an instant.
What you don’t want to do is ask a complicated question.
One that will have people hesitating to engage because they’re not sure about their answer.

So, simply ask people where they’re calling from.
And once those responses start rolling in…
Read some of them and call certain members of the audience out by name.
Ask them a bit about how things are where they’re from…
Because people feel good when they’re encouraged to talk about themselves.
So, for your next virtual speaking engagement…
Use the chatbox well.
It’s a great tool for unlocking the audience’s energy…
Even though you might not be physically together!
Cheers,
Carmen
