THE ENEMY WITHIN ME

Every human or living thing has friends as well as enemies. It is the enemies whom we try to run far away from.
What would you think when I say we also have an enemy within us?
Surprised
We all have a voice or a self speaker inside of us. From early childhood, we all experience the inner running commentary that feels quite natural. It develops early in our lives where we absorb the judgments of the people around us and the expectations of the society in which we all live. This inner voice can be critical many a times. This critic holds us back from a lot of things. It doesn’t allow us to set ourselves free.
The irony is many of us are not even aware of it. For a long time, I was totally unaware that I am pulling myself back from taking same brave decisions, from enjoying my life to the fullest, from having a great time with my life etc.
When I was struck with this realization, I was sad to know how much of my precious life I had already (would not say wasted) lived i.e. “Only Lived”. However, it was an eye opener; I need to be my motivator and not critic, my friend and not my enemy.
How can I be that?
This question kept hovering over me. How? How? How?
And one day the answer just popped out all by itself. Only I needed to understand the clues. I saw a lot of things I resisted or held myself from doing. When I realized that, I guided myself, had a pep talk and sometimes even pushed to do a new challenge. This helped me to understand my limits, strengths, opportunities to improve etc.
To start with I took small, feeble steps however after some days the same steps were strong, with a purpose or goal which were clearer. This boosted my confidence which now has become a part by entire me.
Enemies are good at times
However enmity with oneself can be disastrous.
