The Enemy We All Face

Have you ever been so fed up with yourself wondering why you can’t do the things that you know you should do/want to do?

Here’s your possible situation:

1.?????You sit down at your desk to make some calls… then you just sit there. Afraid.?

2.?????Or maybe you finally decide you’re going to record a video and post it online… but instead you just stare at yourself in the camera not knowing what to say.

3.?????Maybe you tell yourself, “today will be the day I finally hit the gym.” Then you just sit on the edge of your bed looking at yourself in the mirror thinking, “Whom am I kidding?”

These are just a few of the many situations all of us find ourselves in at some point or another. For some of us, we find ourselves in this position daily. We have all the best intentions in the world but we can never actually “do the thing.”

Why?

Well, that has to be a question that you have also asked yourself many times but after many failed attempts myself, here’s the conclusion I’ve come to:

Judgment and Criticism.?

You judge yourself. Then you do worse, you criticize yourself for even thinking you could “do the thing.”

Where does this judgment come from and why is it in all of our heads?

It’s simply an outside voice that has found resonation within us and has become internalized.

I won’t dive into talking about what the voice is but rather why it is that it is in our heads. The simple reason is that we allow it. We give it space. We see that what it’s saying is not totally absurd. We resonate with it to varying degrees.?

It’s the resonation that is the key to all of this.?

In the beginning, we get merely a little annoyed at ourselves for not doing what it is that we set out to do. Yet, over time we all can testify that one of two things happen:

1.?????We accept what the voice is saying as true and we give up.

2.?????Or we get so fed up listening to the voice that we tell it we’re doing the thing anyway regardless if it has a valid point or not.

This is the point that we all must come to.

This is the point of writing this piece.?

You and I are the same. We all have things that we want to do yet don’t do because we listen to that annoying voice in our heads.?

Our anger, judgment, and criticism are pointed in the wrong direction. It shouldn’t be directed at ourselves but at the voice. You must get so fed up with that voice that you give it no room to speak anymore. If, by chance, it finds a way through and you decide to listen to it again, then use it for your education to work on the weaknesses that it's criticizing you on. Then banish it again.

As long as you resonate and are fine with it, it will have its way with you. You must give it no room to speak. Take away its voice by taking away your internal ears. It’s not until you actually begin to have an emotional reaction against this voice that you will conquer it. You must win in your mind before you can win in the world. Do the thing that you set out to do and with that, you will have conquered the day and begun the process of making your dreams and goals become a reality.?
