Enemies of Progress: Procrastination
Our minds work like machines, fabricating wishes from the basic raw material - Thoughts. That is why we think and think all day. We think and think as the clock ticks away.
Question - can you stay one second without having a thought in your head?
Its almost as if our minds do nothing else but think all day, and sometimes all night. What do we do with all these thoughts? - Mostly Nothing.
Question - How do we think so much and yet act on very little? Partly, the answer lies within us, it is because of our Choices, our Will, Fear, Procrastination, and External factors like fate, time, and chance. In actual sense, these variables make the difference between you and I.
One of man's biggest enemies is procrastination. It works by postponing the time of action. Everyday, lots of beautiful ambitions, great plans, and potential actions die in the hands of procrastination. Think about it, When you have had it all thought out, carefully planned, and ready to go... Then comes the moments of procrastination. 'I will go today, I will do it tomorrow, no I just need to wait for the perfect time, what if I fail, no I'm not good enough...' and gradually opportunity slips away. Everyday great plans die this way. You have to do something.
Success has natural obstructions, that is why there are few billionaires in the world. You have to fight, to overcome procrastination, you need Courage, determination, commitment, and discipline. You must believe in yourself, believe in your dreams, overcome the persistent fear of failure, debase laziness, manage excessive speculation and over planning. For in life there are times of blind leaps, moments of chance, and seasons of fate. These in most instances are not affected by preparation or qualification.
In engineering we have what we call trial runs - Just do it anyhow so that you can learn from it at least. Dont take ambitions to your grave. Try something today, and no matter the outcome, you are better off than the best plan on paper.
