FEES or VFSS? How does an SLP decide between the two? Why do we even need them? Can you use both tests?
If you know me, you know I am a *huge* advocate for the importance of instrumental swallow studies when it comes to dysphagia diagnostics.
There is a *ton* of literature out there about why we absolutely need diagnostic imaging before being able to diagnose dysphagia. Clinical exams are limited in what they can provide.
The BIGGEST thing I want you to know is – both VFSS and FEES are extremely valuable dysphagia assessments. If you have access to either one – use it.
They provide complementary information! So if you have access to both, it’s important to know what the differences are between each test and why you might choose one over the other (or it the most perfect world ever - both!).
That’s what we’ll be discussing in today’s video.
