Ending Modern Day Slavery

Ending Modern Day Slavery

Today there are an estimated 27 million men and women living in slavery (Human Trafficking), over 2.4 Million in the US alone. Between 100-300 thousand of these victims are estimated to be children, most of which are between the ages of 12-14 when they are sold for sex trafficking. In California, 72% of these victims are American citizens; a majority of which are foster youth. In fact, the legal requirement to report these children missing from the foster care system was not in place until September 2016. Although foster youth are less then 1% of the population, they caused a 57% increase in the number of missing children in the US last year. In honor of MLK day, please join me in breaking the silence about America's invisible children. I dream that one day we can allow all children to have a childhood and to be safe from slavery.

If you think this isn't a problem, ask yourself: how would you know? Unlike "traditional" slavery, the shackles are not physical and perceptible to the naked eye. The scars are similar, and the fear of inescapability hovers over the victim. Kudos to Lisa, Intel, and the law enforcement communities devoting time and resources to the problem.
