Manage your stress loops- video link
The other day I thought closed the refrigerator door, but I didn’t hear the familiar “thunk” of the door closing. I thought, “I will close it in a second.” But my brain knew it would be very easy for me to forget, so my brain gave me what I call a “stress loop”. It said to me, “don’t forget to close the door, don’t forget to close the door. Hey you, don’t forget to close the door.” It was annoying enough to walk over and immediately shut it. Do you notice your stress loops???
I’m grateful that our brain has these warning systems that communicate to us to close the loop on our responsibilities and check off our to-dos. At the same time, it’s kind of irritating that it takes so much energy to hear that voice in your head repeating a thought over and over for little stuff.?

What about longer loops? Things that come in and out of our mind, day in and day out, week after week. Things that aren’t worth our present energy but need to be dealt with eventually. “I should do my taxes. I need to eat more vegetables. I should meditate.” All the important but not urgent stuff.
One way to get these off your mind is to let your brain know you won’t forget them by capturing them. Open any note-taking app and write down the little “stress loops” your brain sends you. Capturing the thought allows your brain to stop repeating the thought because it’s saved. When the thought comes into your brain you can just let it go knowing you have it written down and it tends to stop the loop.
When you do this, you can save yourself a lot of negative energy and stop the broken record of stressing about unurgent things that don’t need your immediate attention.
