End of the year … are we nearly there yet?

We're in the home straight now to the end of 2024 and we can already feel the excitement (or maybe that's actually frenzy!) building for the festive season ahead.

We had a record number of schools sign up for our 7th Bupa Coding Day on Wednesday 13th November where children aged 4-11 years (school years 1-6 or KS1 and KS2) took part in a virtual Healthy Lunch-Bot Coding Adventure sponsored by Bupa. We were delighted with the sign-ups and really looking forward to running the next one in March 2025. Click here for information.

If you're wondering how you can spread some some ESG goodwill, we have suggestions for you! Read on....

New Net Zero Coding Adventure launches!

We had a very exciting day in late October as we successfully delivered our first secondary school coding adventure!

Children from the Winston Churchill School in Woking were the first to embark on a Net Zero Coding Adventure which marks the culmination of the last 6 months work on content by the Get with the Program project team, our Net Zero Coding Adventure Bupa Advisory Board, and with the wonderful the support of VEX Robotics .

Designed specifically for this older age group, our latest coding adventure takes 11-13 year olds on a 'tech for good' journey using data to help our planet, as they code a pathway to net zero.

Court Moor School, Fleet, Hampshire UK is our next pilot school!

Space ... the next frontier!

Throughout 2024 we have been boldly exploring further into Space and have had the pleasure of meeting the team at Spaceport Cornwall , attended Space-Comm Expo England, Space-Comm Expo Scotland, co-chaired a roundtable discussion 'Making Space for Everyone', took part in the Space Skills Conference, hosted a Mars Rover timetrial at the Make the Future Yours! careers event and took part in the #RiseTogether initiative about inclusively in the space industry.

We've been thrilled with all the support that we've had from Space Industry leaders in our mission to inclusively inspire the tech innovators of the future with our Moon Landing Coding Adventure and in particular from the UK Civil Aviation Authority STEM Programme who have generously gifted 10 virtual sessions to primary schools across the UK, many of whom took part during October's World Space Week.

Could you be join our STEM learning champions and become a sponsor?

Ho, ho, ho, not long now until Christmas!

The autumn term is racing along and soon the festive fun season will be upon us. Keeping little ones focused at school on the run up to the Christmas holidays is a super skill that our fabulous primary school teachers manage to pull out of the bag every year! This year, why not spread some festive cheer by gifting a coding adventure to a school local to you to help the teachers with their planning of engaging classroom content at this busy time!

Our AL the Robot and the Three Bears Panto Coding Adventure is now ready for this Christmas and is perfect for introducing key computing terms to the younger ages in KS1 primary education (5-7 year olds) whilst embracing the end of year fun.

Our unique Three Bears Panto Coding Adventure takes children on an exciting, creative and fun journey into tech – using inclusive role models and smashing stereotypes along the way! Working together with ‘Professor’ Trice and AL the Robot, children learn to design, write, test and debug algorithms in this unique adventure.

STEM learning dates for spring term.

We've identified some key dates in spring term for schools to run STEM activities, alongside our visits to our favourite shows and events. You can get involved by sponsoring a coding adventure (or series of events) to enable schools to run engaging learning enrichments on these days, with no additional spend from their dwindling budgets!

4th February: Safer Internet Day, a great day to focus on coding and computing whilst also discussing best practices for the safe use of the Internet

11th February: International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Celebrate with a Moon Landing Coding Adventure and learn about the women who played a pivotal role in the advancements of early space exploration.

4th March: World Engineering Day. Inspire the future tech innovators with a virtual coding adventure!

17th-16th March: British Science Week. The perfect time to host virtual coding adventure.

20th March: Bupa Coding Day. Join in on our 8th Bupa sponsored Coding Day and go on a Healthy Lunch-Bot or Net Zero Coding Adventure!

We'd also love to meet with you! So far, we've identified these following events that we'll be attending and showcasing what we do - come and say hi!

22nd-24th January: Bett Global Show London ExCel. Visit us at the VEX Robotics stand, nd maybe get a selfie with AL the Robot!

11th & 12th March: Space-Comm Expo . Come and meet 'Professor' Trice and AL the Robot at this incredible celebration of Where Space does Business!

AL the Robot has got a new friend – a VEX Robotics rover!

?As part of the next phase of Get with the Program’s mission, and the extension of our content to 11-13 year-olds, we’re delighted to share the news with you that we've been working with VEX Robotics and their amazing VEXcode VR!

VEXcode VR is a wonderful virtual coding environment which uses both block coding AND Python! It brings real world STEM concepts to life making coding immersive, accessible and fun with the capacity to switch into the Python programming language - perfect to support students moving into text-based coding or those already using this language.

Also, we'll be regular visitors to the VEX Robotics stand at Bett this year which is at ExCel, London, running from 22nd to 24th January - please come and say Hi to AL the Robot and maybe get a selfie with her!

And don't forget, we're showcasing VEXcode VR in one of the activities for our new secondary school Net Zero Coding Adventure launching for all UK secondary schools in March 2025.

A thank you...

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Brian Egles , our resident Robot Wrangler!

Brian runs physical robotics activities in primary and secondary schools in the South East and will be joining us on various coding adventures, for demos, and rover time trials at events and in schools.

Thank you for all your enthusiasm and support for what we do, and for bringing your wonderful VEX IQ rovers (and all the other kit) to help bring our coding adventures to life!
