End of Year Newsletter

At this time of year, it’s common to look back and reflect on the year that was. For us, 2023 was filled with milestones and achievements, of which we are mighty proud. ?End of year is also time to address some of the final details if travelling over the summer break, especially for those of us who are taking medicinal cannabis as part of a regular wellness regime.

2023 in Review

2023 has been a big year for Helius, with far too many events to list in a newsletter, so we’ve put together a quick video. As you will see, it’s been a frantic year but we’re very proud of the leading role we play in helping drive the medicinal cannabis industry forward.

Planning for your holiday

Travelling overseas? Rules and regulations around medicinal cannabis vary significantly from country to country, so before you travel overseas, make sure to check how medicinal cannabis products are classified in any places you plan to visit - or transit through. It’s also a good idea to check with your airline, as they may have rules about it too. Carry your prescription with you at all times, and exercise caution and common sense.

There are no issues for travelling within New Zealand. However, you might be concerned about the effects of medicinal cannabis on your driving, and it is a good idea to seek advice from your doctor about this. If you’re taking a CBD product, then you’re probably fine but if your treatment includes THC, then you need to be more careful and perhaps err on the side of caution and get someone else to drive.

And then there's the issue of drinking alcohol while taking medicinal cannabis. Like any prescription medication, combining medicinal cannabis with alcohol comes with risks. Research on the interaction between alcohol and medicinal cannabis is limited, so the general advice is to be cautious. If you end up having a few drinks, take it slow and make sure to have a sober driver to get you back home or get an Uber or a taxi, so you’re not tempted to get behind the wheel.
