End of Work From Home for Infosys?

Infosys, a prominent player in India's software export industry, has recently unveiled a new policy that requires its employees to return to the office for at least ten days each month. This decision is a key part of Infosys' strategy to bolster its return-to-office (RTO) initiative and hybrid work model.

In a heartfelt email, reviewed by ET (Economic Times), a vice president at Infosys encouraged employees in specific segments, particularly those in bands 5 and 6, which include mid-level managers, project leaders, and entry-level staff, to embrace a hybrid work approach that includes spending at least ten days a month in the office. This initiative is set to kick off from November 20, 2023.

The email also introduced the concept of "In Person Collab" weeks, where all employees would be expected to work from the office.

This step mirrors a broader trend in the IT industry, with companies like Wipro, Capgemini, LTIMindtree, and TCS already fostering a more regular return to office routine. For instance, TCS has informally requested its workforce to be present at the office five days a week.

Given Infosys' status as the second-largest IT firm in India, this decision could potentially reshape the landscape of remote work flexibility within the country's tech sector.

However, it's important to note that it's still unclear if this new requirement applies uniformly across all verticals and divisions within the company. The email from Infosys underscores the significance of physical proximity and face-to-face collaboration for effective teamwork and overall well-being.

It also acknowledges the need to find the right equilibrium between remote work flexibility and increased in-person interactions. This move reflects the ongoing dialogue within the IT industry regarding the future of work arrangements in a post-pandemic world.
