End Point Assessment

All apprentices should be aware that at the end of your teaching and learning, you will move on to conduct an end point assessment in order to finally achieve your apprenticeship – but do you understand and appreciate what that actually means and what exactly is involved in completing an end point assessment and achieving your qualification?

Once you reach the end of your learning you will be party to a meeting with your skills coach and employer to discuss and agree that you are ready to enter the End-point assessment gateway.

Once this gateway has been initiated, this will mark the end of your learning period and the start of your final preparation for your End-point assessment.

You will likely begin a series of mock evaluations, reports, or project work for the formal assessment to come. Generally, the period between entering the gateway and the final assessments may be up to 3 months hence giving you plenty of to complete the required work and prepare well for the assessments.

The assessment itself is conducted by an independent party to ensure it is completely impartial and looks to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and behaviours that you will have learnt over the duration of your apprenticeship.

The end-point assessment can contain a number of the following.

·???????Online examinations which will assess your detailed knowledge gained during your apprenticeship.

·???????A practical skills test where the independent end point assessor will run through a series of specific tasks to demonstrate that you clearly understand your practical competencies.

·???????A professional discussion where you and your End Point assessor engage in a planned, in-depth discussion on your training and learning throughout your apprenticeship course. You will have prepared a portfolio of evidence over the duration of their training and so should use this to prepare for the discussion.

·???????Review of your End Point project and discussion over the challenges, successes and learning applied during its execution.

·???????Observation of you applying your newly acquired skills into a live scenario

You will no doubt have some anxieties for the outcomes of final assessments but remember to reflect on the fact that you have been prepared for this throughout the entire duration of your training and the gateway period structure enables you to have the very best preparation to fully demonstrate just how great you are and how well you can apply the skills that you have spent time learning!?
