The end of the year is a great time to reflect on your life and gather data to set goals for the new year. One method I recommend for evaluating your life and understanding where you stand and what you need to work on is creating the Wheel of Life.
The Wheel of Life is a popular coaching tool used for self-assessment and goal setting, helping individuals find balance and improve their overall quality of life. Here are the eight common areas of the Wheel of Life:
- 1. Career and work: This area focuses on your professional life, including job satisfaction, career goals, and aspirations. For example, if you're feeling unfulfilled at work, this might be an area to focus on in the coming year.
- 2. Finance and money: This covers financial security, savings, investments, and overall financial management. It's essential to consider whether you're saving enough for future plans or need to adjust your spending habits.
- 3. Health and fitness: This area includes physical health, fitness levels, nutrition, and overall well-being. Maybe it's time to try a new workout routine or focus on healthier eating habits.
- 4. Family and friends: This focuses on relationships with family and friends, including support, communication, and the quality of time spent together. Reflect on how you can strengthen these relationships in the new year.
- 5. Romance and love: This part deals with romantic relationships, including your current relationship status, happiness in love, and aspirations for future partnerships. Whether you're single or in a relationship, consider what you want from your romantic life.
- 6. Personal growth and learning: This area is about personal development, learning new skills, education, and overall self-improvement. Perhaps there's a course or a skill you've been wanting to explore.
- 7. Fun and recreation: This covers leisure activities, hobbies, relaxation, and how you enjoy and spend your free time. Life isn't all about work; make sure you're setting aside time for fun.
- 8. Physical environment: This includes your living conditions, work environment, and any other physical spaces you frequently occupy. A comfortable and inspiring environment can significantly impact your well-being.
Rate each area of the wheel on a scale from 0 to 10 to indicate your current levels of satisfaction. Don't be upset if you can't rate some areas as 10. You might be content with a 6 at this stage of your life. Take a moment to truly understand what you feel and want.
The ideal scenario is to have all areas more or less on the same level, indicating a balanced life. If you notice that one or some areas are significantly lower than the rest, these deserve attention and should be included in your goal list for the upcoming months.
