The End-of-Year Practice: Pause, Reflect, Reset

The End-of-Year Practice: Pause, Reflect, Reset

Entrepreneurship can be a battle. Let’s not sugarcoat it. You’re sprinting through the year, putting out fires, chasing ROCKs, solving Issues, and fighting to keep your head above water. But now, as the year ends, it’s time to do something different.

Stop.

Not slow down. Not multitask your way through another “break.” Just fxcking stop.

This isn’t about fluff or feel-good vibes. It’s about taking a hard look at the year gone by - your wins, your failures, and everything in between. It’s about resetting yourself before you charge into another 12 months of the grind.

Why You Need to Pause and Reflect

Here’s the truth: if you don’t stop to reflect, you’re flying blind into the new year. You’ll carry the same mistakes, miss the same opportunities, and hit the same ceiling - again and again.

Reflection isn’t self-indulgence; it’s a survival skill. It’s how you learn, grow, and - most importantly - let go of the crap that’s weighing you down.

How to Pause, Reflect, and Reset

Reflection doesn’t mean rumination or regret, it’s a simple practice of acknowledging where you’ve been - all the good, and the not so good - here’s how you start

  1. Own Your Wins No false modesty here. What are you proud of this year? Big or small - doesn’t matter. Write down your wins. Now ask yourself, what did I do to make this happen?

Celebrate those moments. They’re proof of how awesome you are!

  1. Face the Hard Stuff Let’s talk about the failures—the crappy decisions, the missed goals, the incomplete ROCKs, the times you felt like you didn’t want to be here. That’s where the real lessons live.

Be brutal. No lessons, no growth. No growth, no progress.

  1. Gratitude with an Edge Gratitude doesn’t mean all love and light. It means recognising the people, moments, and lessons that kept you going

Realise that you have support and guidance greater that you may realise in the day to day flux of life

Reset: The Mental Detox You Need

Reflection isn’t complete without a reset. You don’t just analyse the past - you leave it behind. The wins? Take them. The lessons? Keep them. The baggage, the head trash?? Drop it.? Breathe it alllll in…. And out

Here’s how:

  • Forgive your failures Didn’t hit a target? Made a bad call? Good. That’s part of the deal. Learn what you can and let it go. Don’t let the past define your future
  • Recharge Like You Mean It Stop glorifying busy. Get some real rest. Do whatever fuels you - sleep in, play with your kids, get outside, smash some Netflix. Recharging isn’t optional; it’s how you come back swinging.
  • Be ok with being lazy and unproductive You punch and take hits all year round, now’s the time to be comfortable being out of fighting form.??

What I Learned This Year

I’ll go first. Here’s a taste of my biggest learnings for the year:

  1. If you’re in a shit hole, open up to your trusted people from a space of vulnerability - I’m super lucky to have some amazing friends in my life, to whom I can turn and spill my mess of emotions and challenges.? By holding space and witness, they help me help myself
  2. Take responsibility for your own inner world, only then can it change - So often it’s easy to attribute or blame someone or something for your internal mess…though as soon as you realise that you are responsible for how you feel, you can then summon your own power to shift your inner world
  3. Gratitude, desire and receptivity bring your dreams into reality - It’s a powerful practice to be truly grateful for everything (the good and bad) while holding the flame of desire alive in your heart….from this place, know you are worthy, be open to receive all the goodness coming to you???

Your turn!

So here’s the challenge: when you reach the end of the year, do yourself a solid - take the time to really stop. Look back. Own your wins. Face your failures. Reset yourself for the year ahead.

I'd love to hear what your biggest learnings have been - drop your thoughts in the comments - or DM me if you’re not ready to share it publicly. I’d love to hear what this year taught you.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this series, where we’ll dive into putting yourself first - reconnecting with what you really want and where you are right now.

For now? Pause. Reflect. Reset.
