The end of manufacturing as we know it?

The end of manufacturing as we know it?

A few years back, I began thinking about writing a book that would package up my 25 years of experience roaming the highways and byways of the Industrial Internet of Things.

And eventually, after a few false starts, I'm excited to say my book is now a reality.

REMAKE: the end of manufacturing as we know it?is published by Netoria Inc and if you have an interest in how the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is going to disrupt manufacturing and change the way we make things, I think you'll find it worth reading.

I've tried to pack it with insights from over a quarter of a century, and people who've read it seem to think I haven’t done a bad job.

Shawn Collins, the former COO at industrial power and control systems firm Flanders, said: "If you are trying to transform your manufacturing business, this is a must-read!”

While Edgar Angeles, Executive Vice President at multinational building materials company CEMEX, said:?“When it comes to manufacturing transformation, I have never met anybody as resolute as Lou. And this book, filled with his knowledge and experience, takes you on an IIoT journey as seen through his unique lens, one eye to a microscope, the other to a telescope.”

These are guys I respect, so I really appreciate their kind comments.

Since adopting IIoT often requires a fundamental reinvention of an OEM's business model,?Remake?is aimed full square at the decision-makers in a company, And while the complexity of each individual IIoT project means it's impossible to offer up a single blueprint for change, I hope to give you a core understanding of what's involved in moving on from old ways of making things.

Remake?lifts the lid on what I see as one of the most disruptive technologies around, and one that's sure to blow manufacturing apart over the next decade. And, by the end of the book, I hope readers will have a much greater understanding of how manufacturers will have to reinvent themselves in the not-too-distant future.

For some, it will be about using IIoT to better meet their customers' changing needs, or to achieve unprecedented levels of efficiency and productivity that will see them operating at near 100% uptime.

For firms that are large enough, there's also the potential to move from a traditional CapEx-heavy business model to an OpEx one, where products like hydraulic presses, generators, turbines and earthmovers that would previously have been bought and sold, are turned into services. That's going to be a game-changer.

I also take a look at how IIoT can play its part in mitigating the increasing threat of climate change by optimizing the production process and helping reduce waste ... and don't we need that.

Anyway, if you're an industrial manufacturer and you want to know why you should make the IIoT a key component of your operation as fast as possible, maybe?REMAKE: the end of manufacturing as we know it?is worth a look.

?And if you do read it, I'd love to know what you think.
