The end of the ICE?

The AMRC Review contains the bold statement that "Under plans to tackle air pollution, the Government has announced that sales of petrol and diesel cars will cease in 2040." But just this week the Office for Low Emission (and they should know) have stated that there will be the "End of sales of conventional vehicles by 2040 and almost every vehicle to be zero emission by 2050". Similar statement? Not if you make internal combustion engines! Sure we need zero emission capable vehicles but people need to be very careful about making sound bits of automotive electrification forecasts. Most forecast show a significant proportion of hybrids by 2040 but not the death on the internal combustion engine.
