RECHARGE: WHAT TO READ, WATCH AND LISTEN TO

(1) Resident Evil (Netflix). Umbrella Pharmaceuticals is back in this series reboot of the movie franchise. Good, old-fashioned zombie fun. (2) Prehistoric Planet (Apple+). Narrated by David Attenborough, this comprehensive look at dinosaurs and their possible habitats is one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched. And full disclosure: it's my golden retriever Pippa's favorite show. I dare you not to have nightmares about the prehistoric toad. (3) The Janes (HBOMax). Riveting and timely documentary on a network of women dedicated to ensuring womens' right to an abortion before Roe. (4) Big Sky (Hulu). David E. Kelly's series about two private detectives in Montana tracking a serial killer. (5) Peaky Blinders (Netflix). Post-WWI violent chronicle of the Shelby family, a Birmingham-based crime syndicate with deep Romany ties. The early seasons with Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons are not to be missed. (6) Book Lovers by Emily Henry. Emily Henry's books were made for summer. In this snappy, clever rom-com, two New York literary sharks fall in love in a small town in North Carolina. (7) The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. Creepy from page one, this tale of an ex-con maid and the not-quite-right family she works for will keep you on the edge of your seat. (8) Dirtbag Massachusetts by Isaac Fitzgerald is a raw, addictive memoir of men misbehaving. (9) We Don't Know Ourselves: A Personal History of Modern Ireland by Fintan O'Toole reads more like a novel than a book about contemporary Irish history. (10) Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. I only re-read about five books and this is one of them. Each time, I notice something different in this classic. This book is more enthralling each time I read it.
