In 2021, LinkedIn rolled out "Creator Mode": a profile layout designed to amplify post visibility. It featured unique tools for creators: Post and Follower Analytics, Live-Streaming access, and extra header elements like a follower counter, an external link (or button for premium users), and up to 5 optional hashtags.
Originally, LinkedIn was a job-centric platform. Then, social media evolution introduced live streams and business influencing. A vocal minority regularly publishes content, prompting LinkedIn to cater to their needs.
The decision to create two distinct profile layouts – or rather, arrangements of profile elements – was questionable. Now, four and a half years on, all LinkedIn members enjoy enhanced statistics and publishing options. However, the header hashtags will retire in March.
LinkedIn has communicated these changes to select creators, but questions remain: Will the follower counter display on all profiles, or just those opting for "follow" rather than "connect"?
Activating creator mode emphasizes the former, but a setting already exists for this preference. Hence, you can tailor your Call to Action (CTA) based on your goals. The "About" section and recent activity/featured content will switch places. The new sequence is:
Best Practices:
I'm breaking the usual publishing schedule for a critical reason: time is of the essence!
The upcoming changes are significant but manageable. The "About" text will gain prominence. However, with 30% of profile visitors not scrolling down, rethink your header image: Can it convey your message as effectively as your hashtags once did?
We're losing a valuable feature: the "people who talk about" section from hashtag searches. It was a straightforward way to pinpoint active influencers discussing your interests.
The closest alternative is Taplio's influencer database, costing around $200 per month. My advice: Act swiftly. Conduct hashtag searches and engage with those #speakingPeople. Not every connection will be perfect – review their profiles carefully. But do it now – time is ticking.
