The End or The beginning ?
Today saw the close of the Solar Energy UK show.
For some uncertainty in the market has already resulted in job losses with new losses being announced today and yet around the hall there was an air of excitement as new opportunities present themselves.
Decisions on industry support aside the story in the solar industry is the same as for many sectors , the "dinosaurs" will eventually be wiped out as they fail to adapt to environmental changes and new species will take their place and dominate their sector. Overkill? as yet who knows , what we can say is that innovators will find a way.
So the show comes to an end but it was clear that in some quarters new products and solutions were taking shape, that the industry was beginning to evolve to meet the challenges. However i met people over the three days who were getting out of the industry, good people who were worried about security , the continuation of work and at the very basic level the ability to feed their own families.
On the wider stage i also spoke to people concerned about fuel poverty and their concerns over projects that had been cancelled as a result of the recent announcements and the short time left to organise large scale projects. the casualty in this case is the very end user that the removal of subsidies was meant to help.
Despite the bad news stories though, the buzz was of tomorrow, innovations in battery storage , system efficiencies and new and exciting funding opportunities. there were also some clear signs of confidence in a new beginning.
For our part the stand was very busy every day and visitors were given an insight into our future. we also used the opportunity to recruit new franchise installation teams looking to be a part of a growing company with vision and a long term plan.

9 年Thanks again Clive for your upbeat outlook... Impressive update of the current industry vibe; I always appreciate your updates and glad to hear about the innovators like yourself pushing onwards and upwards, new technologies being introduced and new manufacturing techniques being adopted already is definitely the only way forward now...

9 年Hi Clive, apart from the above said developments, many did say that this might be more of a temporary tremor to what is projected to be a growing industry in the UK and Europe. A recent estimation by the DECC gives us 250000 hectares of south facing roof space in the UK. Am positive, if not optimistic, that UK would soon have to find a common ground to support the Solar PV industry thanks to mounting internal and international support for clean energy transition. Thank you for your insights. The staff at Solarplicity were very friendly in detailing their products and services.
