END OF 2024: WHAT I’VE LEARNED AS A RECRUITMENT BUSINESS OWNER
This year, Growth turned 4 years old, and as we wrap up 2024, I’ve been reflecting on what this journey has taught me. Running a business is messy, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. At 31, I’m still figuring it out, but here are 4 honest lessons that have shaped me this year:
1?? Take care of yourself first.
If you’re running on empty, your business will be too. Simple as that.
When you’re in the early stages, you are your biggest asset. That’s why prioritizing exercise, therapy, personal growth, and downtime isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Trust me, I’ve been the guy running on fumes, thinking I could push through. Spoiler: it doesn’t work.
Look after yourself, and you’ll show up better for your business.
2?? Therapy - it’s a game-changer.
Here’s something not enough people admit: running a business will force you to confront every insecurity you have.
I started therapy this year because I realized that ignoring my flaws was holding back both me and my business. It’s not easy, and I don’t have it all figured out yet, but I can tell you this—it’s made me a better leader and a better person.
If you’re avoiding it, ask yourself why.

3?? Forget work-life balance—at least for now.
I used to think I could “have it all.” Spoiler: you can’t—not when you’re building something meaningful.
There’s a cost to chasing big goals, and it’s often time with friends, family, and loved ones. It can be lonely, but it’s the reality of the journey.
What’s helped me? Finding people who understand the grind. Surround yourself with others on a similar path—it makes the sacrifices feel less heavy.
4?? Clients are everything—treat them that way.
This might seem obvious, but it’s worth saying: you should always be chasing new clients or have a team doing it for you. And once you’ve got them, take care of them like your business depends on it—because it does.
Happy clients = loyalty + referrals = growth.
These are my lessons, and they’re not perfect, but they’re real.
