2024 Project Highlights
?
Coburg Apartment Buildings
Our carpentry team successfully completed an extensive carpentry package involving the construction of 312 apartments across two buildings in Coburg. This comprehensive project consisted of the supply and installation of all carpentry items, including 1,700 doors and jambs, over 20,000 linear meters of skirting and architraves, and more than 350 bathroom fit-offs. A standout feature of the project was the addition of three expansive rooftop decks, totalling 385 square meters of Modwood decking.
The rooftop decks were the crowning achievement of the project, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline and serving as tranquil relaxation spots for residents. The buildings have become an iconic landmark in Coburg, and we take pride in having played a significant role in their development.
Spanning seven months, this project showcased the skill and dedication of our team. Supported by our labourers, the carpentry team worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail was executed flawlessly, all within a strict timeline and budget.
?Brighton Recreational Centre
Our full carpentry package was carried out at the redevelopment of Brighton Recreational Centre, following a fire that caused irreparable damage to the building. In 2018, Council completed a social infrastructure needs assessment that determined the building is ageing and lacked contemporary design features.
Following this, the centre has been transformed into an outstanding integrated multi-purpose precinct featuring an extended gymnastics area with first floor viewing space, multifunction spaces and more. Our carpenters completed the structural subfloor, feature ceilings and finishing carpentry.
Richmond Café
The recently completed STREAT Café in Richmond exemplifies the diverse range of services MD Group can provide for any construction project. Our sister company, Melwood Joinery, was responsible for the manufacturing and installation of all joinery components. Additionally, our skilled plasterers executed the plaster package, while our carpenters handled the installation of press metal door frames, doors, and aluminium feature skirting in both front-of-house and back-of-house areas.
Our collaborative approach allowed us to work closely with the client to bring their vision to life, ensuring that every element aligned perfectly with their vision. This project stands as a testament to our ability to deliver comprehensive construction solutions that meet and exceed expectations.
Hampton Pavillion Refurb
A sports pavillion in Hampton was due a refurbishment in preparation for summer, and we were tasked with the job of the full carpentry package.
Our carpenters installed the new LVLs for the roof structure, complemented by a new timber fascia encircling the building. We also fitted new doors, skirting, sanitary fixtures and a striking soffit made from spotted gum battens. The team had to follow an intricate colour layout to achieve this eye-catching design, fixing the 42x42 spotted gum battens with perfect curved cuts to match the steel fascia.
Additionally, we revitalised the hardwood bar top, restoring it to its original state and accentuating it with new stunning Sculptform feature battens. The hardwood shrouds were custom-fit to include an LED strip above the bar, which created the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern elegance.
Aged Care Knoxfield
In Knoxfield, our team have been working on the structural and internal fix carpentry on this new vertical living aged care building. This project consists of a 177-bed residential aged care facility alongside a 3-story respite building offering 15 independent living apartments.

3 New Schools
The carpentry team successfully completed a comprehensive three-school bundle at Aintree Primary School, Aitken Hill Primary School, and Gaayip Yagilla Primary School, all of which were executed concurrently in North Melbourne.
This full carpentry package included the installation of doors, skirting, bathroom fittings, fire doors, and various day labour tasks.
Culture
2024 saw many remarkable social events aimed at strengthening our team cohesion and expressing gratitude to our most valuable asset—our people.
A notable event was our charity soccer tournament in April. This enjoyable evening brought together both our staff and some clients, resulting in a successful event that raised $2,000. These funds were donated to the Women's Liberation Halfway House, an organisation dedicated to supporting women and children affected by domestic violence. We take pride in contributing to their vital work.
We have also taken steps to give back in other ways. In recognition of National Blood Donor Week, several team members donated blood at the Australian Red Cross LifeBlood pop-up in Moorabbin. For many, it was their first experience donating, and we are incredibly proud of everyone for their commitment to saving lives. Furthermore, in celebration of World Earth Day, the entire office embraced a vegan diet for the day, enjoying non-dairy milk in their coffee, snacking on vegan treats, and cooking a vegan BBQ for everybody to share for lunch.
Additionally, we enjoyed some fantastic staff social events throughout the year. Highlights include our Christmas in July meal, our Christmas party at Caulfield racecourse and several other gatherings. These events are essential for fostering solidarity among our office and site staff, creating a unified work environment.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue this momentum by planning more engaging activities, to give back to the community and to our amazing team.
