Encouraging Student Discourse

Encouraging Student Discourse

This month we’re focusing on student discourse. Each Great Minds? curriculum includes Socratic seminars, peer-to-peer discussion activities, discussion-based assessments, and other opportunities for students to share their thoughts and confer about what they are learning.

Why? Because when students take part in discussion, they are more engaged in content, they can solidify their own understanding, and they can clear up misconceptions. Additionally, a teacher can make real-time adjustments to a lesson as student learning is revealed through peer-to-peer discourse.

All of our opportunities for discourse are student-centered, meaning that students lead discussions with educator prompting instead of teachers directing the conversation.

Best,

The Great Minds Team

P.S. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for our monthly product newsletters. Each month, you’ll receive information about events, webinars, new blogs, and more about Eureka Math??and Eureka Math2, Wit & Wisdom, or PhD Science.
