Encouraging Progress
I am immensely pleased to say I have enjoyed overcoming the considerable challenges the last year has presented, and to share how much I value the new areas of work I am now involved in. Since retiring as CEO of the Southmead Project in April 2020, after 25 years at the helm, I have accepted invitations to join the team at the government inspired Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), and Avon and Wiltshire NHS Research and Development team.
From a CSA perspective I can record how greatly encouraged I am by the progress being made in the design of a new pathway of care for children who are facing, or have faced, the awfulness that is child abuse. To be a part of something that has a clear mandate and sheer determination to bring about much-needed change where the abuse of children is concerned, is a great honour. I look forward very much to continuing to contribute to the efforts of the team and bringing my experience to bear on issues that are so very close to my heart.
My work with the Research and Development team at AWP is equally challenging but most certainly fulfilling, and worthwhile. The wide range of research topics that are covered by the team, ensures the continued wellbeing of patients who have had need to access NHS services; equally, new research findings often brings progress and change for the better - something I find most encouraging.
