Encouraging a Growth Mindset
TechniCap Partners
TechniCap combines consulting skills and the Blueport Platform to progressively digitise your business.
At TechniCap Partners, we strongly believe in fostering a growth mindset. We believe in the importance of learning from constructive feedback as a way to improve and grow. Having a growth mindset involves being receptive to constructive feedback and viewing it as a chance to grow, rather than taking it as personal criticism.?
A growth mindset believes that mistakes are a natural part of learning and growth, “I can definitely enhance my skills through consistent effort and practice.”
A fixed mindset believes that one's abilities are limited and that improvement is impossible.
We recently explored our thoughts on intelligence, abilities, and talents and how these ideas can influence whether we have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. During our conversation, we explored ways to support one another in embracing a growth mindset when receiving feedback.
Learning to give feedback in a way that promotes a growth mindset is crucial for personal growth. These are the main points we discussed as a team:
Consider the person's circumstances.
Everyone has different challenges and pressures; understanding these can help you tailor your feedback more effectively.
Consider how you give feedback.
Think carefully about whether to deliver the feedback in person, during a call in front of others, or in writing.
You're not assessing the person's ability or potential, just their skills at a point in time.
Feedback should focus on current performance, not on the individual's overall capability or future potential.

Focus feedback on the person's progress and effort.
Acknowledging improvement and hard work helps reinforce positive behaviour and encourages further growth.
Feedback should offer specific guidance on what to change.
Clear, actionable suggestions make it easier for the person to understand what needs improvement and how to achieve it.
Check that they have understood your feedback.
Ensuring that the feedback is fully understood helps avoid misunderstandings and sets the stage for constructive action.
Always offer the opportunity to discuss your feedback.
Providing space for discussion encourages open communication and helps ensure the feedback is constructive and beneficial.
Providing feedback in a thoughtful manner and with a mindset focused on growth not only aids in personal improvement but also enhances our team's culture of constant learning and development.
