Encourage Your Workforce to Participate in Team Building Events with These Tips

Let's face it: not many of us enjoy going to work in person. It’s cold, someone is always chewing loudly, and you need a break. But when you're stuck in the office all day or in your home work space, it can be hard to step away from the computer. This causes exhaustion, burn out, and makes you less creative and collaborative.??

One way to help employees get the break they need is through team-building events. If you’re worried about breaking the bank or having an employee revolt on your hands- don't be. There are plenty of ways to plan events that encourage meaningful participation and allows employees to flex their creative muscles. All it takes is some creativity!?

True Team-Building??

To start, make sure you ask your employees what kind of team-building activities?they want to participate in. They may have some ideas that you hadn't considered before, and employees will be more likely to participate in an event if they feel like their voice is being heard and listened to. It's just as important to check in with them after to see how the event went. If they didn't think the activity was effective or fun, then you’ll know to plan a different event next time.??

Think of the Whole Person?

Not all people have the same desires and preferences, so it's essential to be cognizant of this when planning an event. Some people may be more introverted than others, while others may be more extroverted. Additionally, some employees avoid participating in group activities because they prefer working alone or being around a small group instead. That’s why it’s so important to offer different events throughout the year so all employees are able to participate. Bundle understands that everyone in the workplace has different strengths and weaknesses, which is why we offer a huge variety of team-building events that are available on-demand when you need one.?

Be Willing to Invest in Yourself and Your Employees?

Part of team-building activities is showing employees you care about them. Another way to do that is by offering them training opportunities, mentorship programs and access to professional development courses that they can use to hone their skills and advance their careers. It also means investing in yourself and growing your leadership skills. Becoming a more effective leader will help your entire team be more successful and collaborative.??

Don't Schedule Too Many Activities?

Don't cram too many activities into one day. It will be overwhelming for everyone involved and can leave people with a bad taste in their mouth, instead of feeling energized and connected. Try having various events spread over time so people can choose which ones they want to attend based on what they’re interested in and what works for their schedule?

The same goes for calendar years. Try not to plan too many events in one year as this will become overwhelming for your employees. Once a month might not be right for some teams, so maybe once a quarter works better. Finding the right balance is just as important as finding the right activity.??

There is no right or wrong way to encourage participation in team-building events.

What matters most is that you're willing to be flexible when planning and executing your company's activities. Try using some of these tips next time you’re planning a work event!
