Mirroring in Microsoft Fabric introduces a smooth way to copy data in near real-time from databases or data warehouses right into Fabric’s OneLake. The cool feature was first announced at Ignite in November 2023 and is now in Public Preview on March 26, 2024.
Benefits of Mirroring
The feature allows you to replicate data in near real-time, ditching the need for complicated setups or the traditional ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes. Basically, the mirroring starts with a snapshot and then keeps your data synced up with every change you made. By moving your databases to OneLake, you can easily get almost instant insights from your data which super useful for making quick, informed business choices.
Another benefit is the possibility to keep track of your databases securely within Fabric without having to juggle different database clients or install extra stuff on your computer. Mirroring uses CDC (Change Data Capture) technology to pick up changes from your original database and turns them into Delta tables in OneLake and you can easily monitor and control exactly which bits of data get mirrored, making sure only the data you need is replicated.
Enabling Mirroring in Admin Portal
Having understood what Mirroring is about and the benefits associated with it, it is important to note that the Mirroring needs to be enabled in the Fabric Admin Portal. Therefore, let's dive into enabling the new feature.
In the Governance and insights section, click Admin Portal

In the filter by keywords search box of the Admin portal, search for mirroring
Toggle the button to enable the feature. By default, you can apply to the entire organization. However, you can decide to enable for specific predefined security group. Once you're done, click Apply
In the next article and videos planned for April, I will show you how to create free Snowflake account, warehouse, database, tables and ingest data into the table. I will also show you how to get data from the table in Fabric Warehouse/Lakehouse and mirror your data.
