Leadership Vs Management?

What is the difference between leadership and management?

There is a saying that employees leave managers, not jobs. It’s a slightly over used quote but is true.

A manager is exactly that – someone who manages the day-to-day operations, tasks and people in the business.

Leadership is more nurturing and supportive.

Leadership is a relationship - something you do WITH people and not TO them.

A good leader should set out to inspire people with a vision and bring them along for the journey with everyone contributing, growing and developing together.

Recognition Vs Reward

Focusing on rewarding your team for their hard work is the right thing to do. Often, small businesses don't have the funds to be able to offer employees final rewards, and often a financial reward will not be the best motivator.... In this month's blog our newest member of the team, Amie, shares her thoughts on the difference between recognition and reward and offers some top tips for showing recognition for your team.

Ena HR's Leadership Development

Leadership Training

Chances are, before you started your business, you took the time to learn your trade and hone your skills over the years. Perhaps you had a leader or manager invest in you and pay for your training early on in your career?

Quite often people start businesses with specific skills, relationships and experience under their belts that they can sell to help others and the idea for a business is formed. As that business grows and they take on staff, the business owner is already stretched and desperate for that additional resource and support and it is easy to bring employees into the fold and get them straight to work.

?This is where you can slip into bad management habits and not be the leader that you have the potential to be.

?Ena HR are launching their 5th Cohort of Leadership Training in April 2025. Bespoke 121 coaching to personalise and embed 4 online workshops that give business owners the tools and confidence to lead their teams to success! Don't just take our word for it...?

'You have revolutionised the way I think, act and speak as both a manager and a leader.'

Case Study

THE COMPANY

A Warwickshire based company had delegated management responsibility from the business owner to a small new team of managers.

?

THE CHALLENGE

The newly appointed managers had a variety of management experience and styles. The risk was inconsistency of following process and reduced staff engagement from the change in management.

THE SOLUTION

We designed a bespoke management training series that could be delivered in bite sized chunks virtually at a time that suited their busy schedules. The series was spread over 4 weeks and had 4 modules:

  1. Managing our way – the key policies and processes that must be adhered to
  2. What it takes to be a great manag3r – most people leave a bad manager and not a bad job so how do we become great managers
  3. A walk through of the HR system that supports them doing their job
  4. A personal 1-2-1 coaching session - creating a roadmap of their management journey so far and what skills gaps and development opportunities there are going forward

THE THOUGHT

Whether you’re the manager or you are delegating that day-to-day responsibility it is essential you are fair and consistent and following your own policies and processes. Being a great manager that inspires employees and goes that extra mile is a skill that most of us need support to develop.
