Tips and Tricks

This month,?Anja Rosendahl provided the following tips for fellow medical writers:

You set the agenda! (do not let the email inbox dictate it for you)

  • Make sure your email inbox/calendar opens up in calendar view.
  • Avoid pop-up messages from inbox.
  • Avoid complex archiving with many subfolders in your inbox - the search function work very well.
  • Plan when you read and answer emails (2-3 times per working day).

5-minute rule

Batching emails using the rule: 5 minutes > task < 5 minutes.

Meaning:

  • If the task takes less than 5 minutes, do it now.
  • If the task takes more than 5 minutes: add it to your task list or calendar.
  • Ideally, let the sender know that you have received the email and when you plan to respond with the requested information.

In return, we’ll highlight your LinkedIn or EMWA Freelance Directory profile (or your website) with a link for it, if you wish so.

You can email your contributions to the Public Relations Officer by the 22nd of each month to be featured in the following month newsletter.
