Empty your cup...

I was attending a session, where this great analogy was discussed.

It was a story about a very educated and very successful man named (David), who had multiple degrees, masters, PhD, experts etc.?He helped many organisations to grow from zero to heroes, from 1 million to a 100million. He was very well known in the industry as the richest, strongest and most knowledgeable person in the world alive.?

He was always so eager to learn, that he almost studied everything possible by a human ever.?

There was one thing he came to know about getting trained under Master Suzuki, which will transform his life into the strongest person mentally possible. It was a 3-year course, and David thought he will do it like a piece of cake, but the most difficult task was to get admitted into Master Suzuki's class. There were only 15 students that were considered for each batch.?

Somehow he gets accepted into Master Suzuki's class. In the first year, every student has to go through menial tasks like cleaning floors, washing utensils, cooking for seniors, washing toilets, washing clothes, polishing boots, and so on. David was very perfect in his work and did all that was given to him this year. The year-end came and then came Master Suzuki, he said?

Master Suzuki - Ron, you are passed, Aby you are passed, Shane you are passed, and so the other 11 members, but when he came to David, Master said, David, you failed, and Master left.?

David - Why did the master fail me, I did all the work which was given to me, maybe I was so perfect, that master wants me to train the juniors as well. This is good. So all his batch mates were now his seniors and he repeated the 1st year.?

He did the same menial things again this year and master Suzuki came after this year passed too. Master Suzuki said.?

Master Suzuki - Kim, you are passed,?Robert you are passed, Albert you are passed, and so the other 11 members, but when he came to David, Master said, David, you failed, and Master left.?

Now David was angry and frustrated. He was like, does master know me who I am ?? Does he realize who is he dealing with? I am the most knowledgeable person on the earth alive and he is failing me back o back.?

With this attitude, he goes to the Master's hut ( these monks stay in small huts) and bangs the door?and sees the Master is drinking tea, enjoying that moment of life with this relaxing and comforting tea, he shouts at the master and says

David - Master do you know who I am, Do you know how much knowledge I have? Do you know what I have done in the industry to make orgs more money, do you know how talented I am? How can you fail me for 2 years consecutively?

Master Suzuki - Sit down David, and pour me a cup of tea.?

David - Starts pouring the tea into the cup, the cup gets full and David stops.?

Master Suzuki -?" Did I ask you to stop? keep Pouring",?

David?- Continued pouring the tea, the saucer was full, the table to overflowing, and David was like what are you trying to do??

Master Suzuki - The Cup is what you are, you are full of knowledge and experience, If you need to grow yourself mentally stronger, you need to empty your cup, and unlearn what you have learned. If your cup is full, how will I give you teachings, so before you start learning, empty your knowledge, clear your ego, and remove your superior attitude??

This is what we should do as well. We should empty our cups and learn new things, empty our cups does not mean that you need to forget what you have learned, but be prepared to put new things in your life to bring impactful change for mental peace and positivity.??
