Empty!
As I get older, there are certain things that I will not stand for. And I think the biggest, is being empty. At age 55, I now realize that time is finite. And with every passing year, it becomes more and more noticeable. So recently during meditation, I thought I would say good-bye to empty. For I will make use of the time that lay before me.
There are 3 parts of the emptiness that I will no longer engage in. They are empty calories, conversations and relationships. If they're not rewarding, they are empty. Let me break my thought process down.
Have you ever had one of those days, where everything went wrong? It's as though God Himself designed a series of events to work against you. {We all know that's not true, it just feels that way.} So we limp our beaten body back to our crib and grab the first comfort food or beverage, sit in front of the TV and binge. I don't mean eat a whole row of cookies. I mean the whole damn bag. Or maybe wine is your thing. One and a half bottles later, you feel good. But in the morning, you realize you consumed half of your daily caloric intake. Now you're feeling guilty, and you're stuck with those calories. Two glasses of wine, would have taken the edge off. But you went all in. Empty!
You're talking to someone and you think to yourself "God, I wish they would make a point." They ramble on and on and 30 minutes later, you think, "there's 30 minutes I'll never get back." You tried to be engaging, but the other person had no flow, no point, and just wanted a captive audience. Empty!
You've been together years, and the energy is gone. Same old, same old, day after day. Nothing new is added to the relationship for a variety of reasons. You not only feel stuck, you feel lifeless. The passion's gone, the connection is gone and the hands of the clock keep ticking. You say WTF? Empty!
Pour into your life passion. Be it conversations, calories or relationships. Make your {time} investment count. If there is one thing I wish I could have told my younger self was.....over indulge in anything that calls to your spirit. I feel blessed to have realized this in my 30's. Now 20 years later, I don't squander time. My life, time and passion are reserved for depth. Never again shall I feel empty.
