A feeling of emptiness can be momentary, situational, or persistent, and can be a symptom of a variety of psychological conditions or even addiction. Many people who experience emptiness report feeling isolated, despondent, and anxious. They may try to fill this feeling with compulsive behaviors, such as shopping or substance use. Others may try to find meaning in their lives by engaging in activities that they find unfulfilling, such as a hobby or adopting a pet. Others may seek meaning in their lives through religion or other spiritual practices.

The cause of a feeling of emptiness varies from person to person, but the main traits are that nothing seems to fill it, and it persists no matter how much you try. The feeling can be described as a hole in your chest that cannot be filled or as a hollow feeling. Whatever the cause, it is important to understand how to deal with it. In some cases, the feeling can last for a few days and may go away by itself.

A common symptom of anxiety disorders is the feeling of being empty. This emptiness can be felt on several levels, including the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Sometimes, the person will simply feel "blah." The symptoms of depression can be severe and debilitating, and you may even consider suicidal behavior. It can also be helpful to set goals, both small and large, that will motivate you to move forward and be more active.

Apathy can be a natural part of our daily lives. Many people experience it at some point in their lives. It's also a common symptom of depression and can make people feel less interested in their daily activities. While many people have experienced apathy in the past, it can be an early warning sign of other problems. Apathy syndrome can affect people of all ages, but is particularly harmful in older adults.

Conclusions

Among the first things researchers look at when examining a person's sense of emptiness are how they describe the feeling , and which factors influence this experience. Participants were asked demographic information and a series of questions about their mental health. They were also asked whether they had attempted suicide in the past. If they had, participants were given the option of selecting "prefer not to say" when asked about the issue. The researchers then asked participants to answer seven questions about emptiness. They were not provided with a definition of "emptiness" to avoid influencing third parties. Participants were asked to rate the definition of emptiness on a scale of 1 to 10 using anchors to identify accuracy extremes.

When a person describes a feeling of emptiness, they typically describe it as a state of being "invisible" and "unproductive." These experiences usually accompany an overall sense of worthlessness or burden. Some people describe feeling "invisible" and "missing."
