Well, it’s official - I’m (almost) an empty nester.?
Our youngest has achieved the A Levels needed to start university life in London, with no plans of returning to live with ma and pa permanently.
Meanwhile, our eldest kid, is leaving the UK for good.
First stop Costa Rica - chasing his dreams of travelling the world, while tattooing every patch of bare skin somebody will pay him to ink along the way.
Never mind the kid…
…what about the fact he’s taking my beloved cat grandson Nova with him?!
(Yep, I’ll admit it. I’m probably a little more emotional about the puss-cat than is normal).
Anyhow, watching the kids pack up, set off on their own adventures and selfishly live life their own way, has me reflecting on two things.
First, the immense power of creating the life you want on your terms.
The habit where one consistently prioritises others' needs over one’s own ambitions, can often result in feelings of resentment and a diminished sense of self.?
An ego-driven need to always be the caretaker can eclipse personal needs, hindering the pursuit of opportunities that could certainly have been beneficial, even life-changing.
Secondly, how much I’m riding on a rollercoaster of nervous excitement.?
It’s a mix of anticipation and a pinch of anxiety as the quiet sets in where laughter and chaos once reigned.
Being a mum has been an exhilarating ride, and watching my children grow into their own has been nothing short of a privilege.?
But as they pack their bags, I’m not just bracing for a quieter home; I’m gearing up for a new adventure myself.?
Tom and I are also spreading our wings - leaving my beloved Birmingham behind as we head to the North West of England.?
There, we plan to expand our sales management and leadership business, and scout for that dreamy forever home with enough land to house our family “Tribe of 20”.
Because what’s life without a little (or a lot) of love, chaos, and, let’s be honest, a menagerie of animals?
This isn’t just about the kids leaving the nest; it’s about us rediscovering our partnership in this fresh landscape, embarking on new business ventures and us both seeking out adventures of our own.?
The thought of creating a new hub for future children and our growing animal family fills me with immense excitement - and sure, a healthy dose of, "What the hay are we thinking?"
Regardless, here’s to the next chapter - may it be filled with as much love and vibrant life as the last.?
This change isn’t just a transition for them; it’s a bold leap into a new era for me too.?
Here's to embracing it all with open arms, and maybe a little bit of entrepreneurial madness too.
