Empty nest
In the spring, two birds build a nest together high on a tree
They carry in their beaks one twig at a time
And beautifully weave together a nest, securing it between the branches
They lay one egg and patiently await it to hatch
A baby chick finally emerges and chirps
The birds are happy to see their baby
And they raise the chick with love
Protecting it from predators in the safety of their wings
They watch their baby grow and strengthen its wings
Until one summer day their baby bird, no longer a baby, flies away
And never returns
The birds look at each other and look at the nest
They fly away and the nest is empty.
