Empty Calories → Empty Wallet

Have you ever calculated how much money your family spends on drinks per year?

Let’s take a typical Aussie family of four who consume (per week):

  • 3 bottles of wine
  • 2 six packs of beer
  • 2 large bottles of soft drink
  • 1 bottle of cordial and
  • 14 cappuccinos.

An Aussie family could easily spend $8,000 per year on empty calories!

Yes, I know red wine is packed with antioxidants and milk is full of calcium, but there are healthier foods loaded with these nutrients.

Over the last 15 years I have intentionally removed all these empty calories from my diet for health, lifestyle and financial reasons. Now, I don’t want to be a wowser. A former drinker can be a sanctimonious pain in the ass!

But I would encourage you to become more conscious of your “drinking” habits and consider if there is something else you’d rather spend your hard-earned cash on. An overseas holiday, a new bathroom, or perhaps putting aside some funds for a rainy day.

Reducing consumption of empty calories can be:

  1. Good for your wallet
  2. Good for the environment
  3. Good for your health

Make your spending count.
