Arty-Fact: Truth and spirituality come through in Jiang's work. His art takes you on a journey through a mystical place of 'in-between' - the space bridging old and new, East and West, fact and fiction. This void represents utopia which he hopes will fill the viewers heart with optimism to help push out the negative as a result of our stressful world. In order to convey this, Jiang uses vivid colours, bold lines, symbolism and powerful images. Source: "Jiang: The Father of the Yunnan School", Fingerhut Group Publishers.
The Empress is a great example of Jiang’s technique. She is depicted wearing a boldly coloured kimono, with a pattern that blends into the background. There is a primitive quality to the bright colours and designs, yet a refined grace creating a royal aura about her.
