Empowerment Day @ Microsoft...
Atlanta Chapter of BAM - Empowerment Day Event

Empowerment Day @ Microsoft...

Last week, I had the honor of attending the an Empowerment Day event, hosted by the Atlanta Chapter of BAM (Blacks @ Microsoft). It was a wonderful event, ably organized by our local chapter and hosted by Monica Rivera & Reggie Shareef. We had a host of impressive speakers and very engaging sessions.

One session in particular hosted by Dr. Kofi Smith – dealt with aligning our Personal Identity with our Brand Identity. We all have a Brand Identity which we project at work – and we all have a Personal Identity as well. Sometimes our Personal & Corporate or Professional Brands are not in Sync. I remember filling out a Personality Profile test at work, early in my career and Microsoft and then doing the test again about 5 years later. I was surprised to find that my colors had changed, I didn’t feel like my personality was any different.

On reflection, it occurred to me that, over time my Brand Identity has become more in sync with my Personal Identity. Our discussion helped reinforce the importance of having and projecting a consistent identity. So, are your Personal & Professional Brand Identities in sync? Would your friends and family recognize you and identify with your behavior, if they sat in on your meetings or watched you work?

Truly and engaging and empowering event – Huge Thanks to our BAM team, can’t wait for the next event.

Good food for thought bro. Thx!

Rotimi Olumide, interesting topic and perspective. What if your personal identity isn’t a “fit” for your company culture that you are forced to project a different brand identity to fit in? I have seen this play out often times in corporate America. The easy answer is usually find a different job/work/company...not so easy to do.
