Empowering Women Through Poker: Unlocking Confidence and Leadership Skills

Poker is a skill-based game but nobody ever thought that these skills could help women excel in their careers and bridge the gender pay gap. Bonnie Marcus, Forbes writer, and author, in her article, has talked about how the brand “Poker Power” discovered Poker in a new way and is currently helping women all around the globe, develop professional skills.?

The article was based on an interview with the former president of Poker Power, Erin Lyndon where she talked about how Poker makes her feel in control, confident, and resilient. She also stated that it does not matter how tall, good-looking, or well-dressed you are, you can only win by making decisions in Poker and this is what happens in the world business as well. It’s a unique way to build negotiation, risk-taking, and decision-making skills.?

Bonnie then moves on to describe these skills and shows how similar the Poker table and professional life are:

Risk-Taking: Poker and business are all about taking risks, if you don’t; you can’t grow. At the poker table, you need to decide whether to raise, bet, or fold with nearly no information about the possible outcomes. Doesn't it also happen in business as well, whether the product will succeed or not, what if people hate it, and whatnot? There is only one way to find out, and that is to take the risk and go for it.

Reading People:?

How to know what cards your opponent has? Read their eyes, and faces, observe their nervousness, disappointment, excitement, everything and once you learn to do that, you win. Similarly, when you know the pain points of your client in business, you seal the deal.?

Decision-Making:?

Chop chop! You got to be quick in Poker and business. You can’t take forever to place the bet or to finalize a deal. Remember, in Poker it's not about the outcome but the quality of your decision just like in business.?

Her article has really given us people, especially women, a different perspective about Poker. It’s not about the game but Poker Power’s unique approach to use it as a tool for professional growth. Though it appears to be a very subtle thing, the impact it’s creating is truly commendable.
